The year 1926 saw the opening of the first house in Meghalaya. The pioneers, Sr. Innocenza Vallino, Sr. Clotilde Appiano and Sr. Cecilia Da Roit arrived here on foot from Guwahati. Regular catechetical instructions and village touring activities were followed by a primary school, a boarding and Sunday Oratories. Today the school has grown into a well-established Higher Secondary School with over 2000 students.

A remarkable work of the past-pupils of the unit is the running of an evening school educating around 200 domestic workers, rag-pickers, newspaper vendors etc. and a typing school trains poor children for earning their livelihood.
