Heeding to the fourth commandment of God “Honour your father and your mother”, the whole campus of Sacred Heart Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Mawlai, reverberated with the lively chatter of the students who were so excited to honour their parents. It took place on 19th October 2010.

The theme was “Good Parents Good Friends”, it was chosen after much debate and reflection by the staff members. The program started with prayer song invoking God’s blessings on parents. The Welcome Speech given by Sr. Albrida Pyngrope, the Principal, gave the tone for the day which was followed by different items from the different sections. Each section presented unique and meaningful items in keeping with the theme. Mr. Founder S. Cajee, Minister for Urban Affairs, Government of Meghalaya was the Chief Guest and Mr. Embhahlang Syiemlieh, MDC was the Guest of Honour. In their Message, each of them stressed and exhorted the parents to be indeed Good Parents for their Children stating that Parents have great responsibilities in the formation of a good society beginning with their children. Parents are sources of inspiration to their children, for, at all times, children need encouragement and support from their parents to face the challenges of everyday life. Thus, they must give special attention to the education of their children. Therefore good parents are also good friends with whom children should feel free to share their views, hopes and dreams. The beautiful day ended with a colourful drill display from the students which amazed the parents and everyone present. Words of appreciation were voiced out by Sr. Carmelina Sun, the Secretary of the school, as she applauded different persons for their contribution to make the programme a success.

The mega celebration of Parents’ Day has come to an end but sentiments of gratitude to God for such great gifts linger and grow in our hearts and minds.
