At the early hours of 5 August 2015 the province witnessed the self-giving of six young women through their First Religious Profession at Mary Our Help Training Centre,
Bellefonte – Shillong. The solemn rite of religious profession was presided over by Rev. Fr. George Maliekal, Salesian Provincial of Silchar Province in the presence of hosts of Sisters, religious men and women, family members, friends and well-wishers.
The Sisters hail from the Khasi and Jaiñtia tribes of Meghalaya belonging to the three dioceses namely Shillong, Nongstoiñ and Jowai. They were led to the altar by their Novice Mistress Sr. Rosa Pyngrope and accompanied by their parents; a symbolic sign of offering by their parents and those responsible in their formation. The motto that has accompanied their journey was “See! I have carved you on the palm of my hand”. By the act of their religious profession they place themselves in the hand of the Lord and pledged to live their life for His glory in the footsteps of our Founders St. John Bosco and St. Mary Domenica Mazzarello making the Salesian charism ever relevant in the present times. Further, in his homily, the main celebrant Fr. George expressed his words of encouragement to the newly professed in this way: “A while ago, when your names were called out, we all heard your response, repeating the words of young Samuel, ‘Here I am Lord; You have called me’. The celebrant did not reply like Eli, ‘Go back and sleep’. Instead, you are told: ‘May the Lord bring your desire to fulfillment’.
The Provincial, Sr. Isabella Suja in the name of the Church welcomed the Sisters to the Institute as members with temporary vows to share in the life and mission of the Province. The celebration was made devotional and meaningful with the apt liturgy and melodious choir under the guidance of Sr. Catherine Susngi. We wished our newly professed a wonderful journey with the young being missionaries of hope and joy.
