“That you are young is enough to make me love you very much…” Lovers of Don Bosco, young and old rallied around his relics at Don Bosco Technical School to have a glimpse of his magnificent presence. The day coincides with the 170th Ordination anniversary of Don Bosco and was aptly commemorated with a Youth Mass. Most Rev. Dominic Jala SDB, D.D, Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese was the main celebrant, concelebrated by more than 40 other priests.
At the very outset the Archbishop greeted the faithful present with his blessings. The grandeur of the day was added with the celebration of the 44th World Communication Day and feast of the Ascension. Don Bosco was an effective communicator of his time. His right hand which is placed inside the relics had produced many books and booklets. Being the world communication day, Archbishop Jala invited everyone to thank God for the gift of this great saint. In the words of the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI who said, “We need to reflect seriously on the significance of communication in this digital age”. He further added that the extraordinary potential of the internet and the complexity of its users call us to reflect seriously as they can contribute to the satisfaction of the desire for meaning, for truth and unity which remain the most profound aspirations of each human person. He offered some challenging and thought provoking questions to the people especially the young who are the vulnerable group to this ever growing new technology. He also exhorted them to be imbued with the Goodnews of the Gospel, so that in their seeking to share, to relate, to communicate, they will do so as believers, as apostles even as this Saint has taught his young people to do in his time. After the holy mass the faithful in a prayerful mode paid their homage to the relics of Don Bosco. It was indeed a moving sight as the simple people drew close to receive the saint’s blessings.
