Sutnga

Mazzarello Convent Sutnga is the third presence of the Salesian Sisters in the Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya. The mission of Sutnga was opened on February 2, 2000 under the protection of St. Mary Mazzarello. It was officially inaugurated on February 22 of the same year in the presence of Sr. Ivy D’ Souza, the then Provincial. The two pioneers were Sr. Isabella Wahlang and Sr. Patricia Nongkhlaw. It was His Grace, (L) Rt Rev. Tarcisius Resto, Arcbishop of Shillong who invited the Salesian Sisters through the instrumentality of the then Parish Priest (L) Fr. Peter Khongshun to work in collaboration with the Diocese in looking after the existing English Medium School. The two sisters were accommodated in the small adjacent house to the Parish, meant for the dispensary.  The house was canonically established on August 24, 2005 by Rev. Mother Antonia Colombo. The first animator of this community was Sr. Rosina Lare. She was installed on August 24, 2005 by Sr. Catherine Susngi, the Vice Provincial.

The year 2007 saw a new house for the Sisters; a little away from the School and the Parish Church too but the Sisters continue to give their assistance in the mission of the Parish.
