Thank you dear Mother Yvonne. Arrivederci!

09 April 2017 - The Province of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Shillong felt fortunate to enter the Holy Week with Mother General and celebrated Palm Sunday on 9 April 2017. The ceremony was presided over by Rev Fr. George Maliekal, Sdb Provincial of Shillong Province. The day was doubly special as the Province kept a day of gratitude to Mother General on the conclusion of her visit.

The function was held at the entrance of the School and from there walked in procession to the Hall for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Before the blessing of the palm leafs Fr. George invited everyone to take part in the meaningful celebration and to acknowledge the Kingship of the Lord in our lives and to adore Him truly as our King and Lord.

In his homily Fr. George once again asked the congregation to identify themselves with the important persons of the Gospel narrative of the Passion of the Lord; personalities like Simon, Joseph of Amrimathea, Mary his mother and the other Mary etc. and compared the love, affection and compassion they had for Jesus with us in our relationship with the Lord.

Soon after the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, the sisters, novices, pre-aspirants and well wishers gathered around La Madre to thank her profusely for the countless graces and blessings received through her presence for the past few days.

Sr. Isabella Suja, Provincial expressed love, appreciation and thank you on behalf of all, which is done in a very creative way. She also presented Mother the outcome of the study of Mother’s circular letter No. 952 as part of the preparation for her visit. The beautiful expression of gratitude and thankfulness through was done through songs, dances, mime and the address.

The spontaneous emotion was evident on the faces of everyone present. There was not much loud cheer on this occasion at the thought of having to bade good bye to their dearly loved Mother.  In her message, Mother Yvonne expressed her joy and appreciation for the outpouring of love and affection received from her sisters, young people and the Salesian family. She, again spoke on the beauty of making the convent a home for the young people and exhorted her daughters to accompany the young people so that, they in turn accompany their young friends.

The programme concluded with photo session with sisters who wanted to get a picture with their mother to keep cherishing the memory of  meeting her.
