07 April 2017 - On 7 April 2017, St. Mary Mazzarello Higher Secondary School, Jowai, Meghalaya, gave an incredibly, massive, and spectacular welcome to our beloved Mother General. On reaching the boundary of West Jaiñtia Hills District along the National Highway 44, she was escorted by the Police personnel.

At Mazzarello School, Mother was grandly received by Sr. Rosina Susngi, the animator of the community, Rt. Rev. Victor Lyngdoh, Bishop of Jowai Diocese, and sisters at the main gate to the house.  She was taken to the house amidst the students who lined up to welcome her, waving colourful balloons and sang a melodious welcome song. At one moment all students burst out their balloon, a symbol of welcome and rejoicing at the presence of Mother.

At the official function, there was a tremor of joy and cheer as they welcomed Mother to the venue prepared for the day. Honouring her august presence they presented her a bouquet of flowers, the welcome address and a welcome song.

On this happy Occasion, Mother General released an Audio CD, in honour of the 90 years of the inception of the School cum Visit of Mother General. Terrence Sawian and Paulinus Kharmudai teachers of the school composed the songs. The short and sweet programme composed of the two songs from the CD, which the students and teachers sang melodiously; and a traditional dance (Shad Sukra) by a group of students in their traditional attire.

In her message Mother expressed her great joy to be in the midst of the lively and joyful young people. She infused in them the spirit of sharing and giving saying that if they would like to be happy they should make others happy. She insisted that they live the culture of ‘Solidarity,’ because it is the source of joy and real love.

Concluding the visit, Mother Yvonne responded to the invitation of Bishop Victor and paid a short visit to the Bishop’s house at Lumbihsyntu.

St. Mary Mazzarello Jowai is the first house of the Province, which was started in 1926.
